摘 要:
文章分析了“臬”字的甲骨文形体，该词为上从“自”下从“木”的会意字。在综合考察“臬”的形体构造、“臬”一词在早期典籍中的用法以及“臬”的同源词的情况以后，“臬”一词完整的发生背景可重构为：把刑罚所割去的鼻子置于树干上当作箭靶来射。[著者文摘]

Abstract:
This paper explains the form meaning of jiaguwen Nie（臬）, which is an associative compounds character made of two parts： the upper part zi（自） and the lower part mu（木）. This paper probes into the form, usage in prc-Qin classics and paronyms of the word Nie（臬）, and points out that the origin of the character e（臬） can be reconstructed as follows： the nose of a convict is cut offand put on the tree trunk for people to shoot with arrows.[著者文摘]
