Abstract:
Both of the novels, Lolita written by Nabokov and Letter from an Unknown Woman written by Zwig, portray bigoted characters, and they express sharp conflicts between the metaphysical world and the physical world and they produce analogously tragic effects. Difference lies in the following. The former reflects the love for esthetics, by which the writer can escape from reality. The latter embodies the love for faith, of which the strange woman was enchanted in esthetic fanaticism.[著者文摘]
