Abstract:
Rhetoric is the mystery of literature. It is also the beauty of literature as well. Without it, the literary language would be much less appealing and persuasive. Since the ancient time, Rhetoric is a subject of interest among many literary scholars and critics. Northrope Frye, a Canadian literary critic, proposed that the literary language was evolved in three stages. In his famous book, "Anatomy of Criticism", he did a critical study of the rhetoical characters in rhythm, meter and a metaphor, in which he employed essays, lyrical poetry, and drama as a platform. His work was not only a summary of the others in the past but also a new theory and vision of his own.[著者文摘]
