埃米莉的人生是苦难的，她对苦难的感触是深刻切骨的。她是为苦难而创作，因而她的诗歌是苦难的，也是自由的。表达苦难、向往自由是她诗歌的思想特征。这一思想特征缘于她不幸的生活际遇、消极厌世的人生观和孤独自省的心理品性。[著者文摘]

Because Emily Bronte had lived a bitter life, she had a profound and thorough understanding of hard life.
