摘 要:
根据历史文献和实地调查，指出岭南历史名镇渊源久远，早期随军事和政区建置而兴起，主要是宋代随商品经济发展而较多地出现，成为城乡物质交流中心，明清达到鼎盛时期，近代则大量出现，同为聚落和工商产业所在。岭南历史名镇按其功能大致可分为交通、产业、市场、名人、艺术文化等类型，具有选址科学、布局合理、建筑风格独特、生态良好和美学价值高等特点，应在保护前提下，积极开发利用，为当地社会经济和文化发展服务。[著者文摘]

On the Origin, Type and Exploitation of the Historic Famous Towns in Lingnan

Abstract:
From the historical documents and firsthand investigation, it is expounded that the historical famous towns in Lingnau （south of the Nanling Mountains） have a long history, which rose with the military affairs and administrative region establishment in the forepart and mainly with the development of commodity economy in the Song Dynasty when they had become the centers of the material interflows between cities and countries. Their development was at a heyday in the Ming-Qing Dynasties. In modern times, a lot of famous towns appeared, as settlements and places to accommodate industry and commerce. According to the function of the historical famous towns, they can be divided into several types, including transportation, industry, market, celebrity and culture, etc. They are characterized by scientific locality selection, reasonable layout, unique architecture style, sound ecological environment and high aesthetic value. They should be exploited and utilized actively under the prerequisite of protection for local development of society-economy-culture.[著者文摘]
