Signaling Pathways in Osteogenic Differentiation of the Mesenchymal Stem Cells

Abstract:
Mesenchymal stem cells are multi-potent stem cells capable of differentiating into multiple cell types present in many different tissues, e.g. osteoblasts, chondroblasts, adipocytes, etc. Mesenchymal stem cells can be readily isolated and easily expanded. Therefore, it is thought to be a readily available source of cells for many tissue engineering especially in bone tissue engineering. The osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells is regulated by many signaling pathways. Many signaling involved in osteoblastic cell differentiation have not yet been fully understood. This review describes the recent advances in mitogen-activated protein kinase and Notch pathways.[著者文摘]
