Research on Compiling and Writing the History of Chinese Literature
Abstract:
The writing and compilation of the history of Chinese literature boasts of a history of more than one hundred years. Three paradigms about it emerge. The earliest paradigm is set up by Lin Chuanjia, Huang Moxi and Xie Wuliang. Albeit there are differences among their versions of the history, the similarities are patently clear, that is, they take the history of scholarship as its vital component. From the 1920s onward, the scholarship on Chinese literature has been quickening its modern transition, which is characterized by encompassing a wide range of genres such as poetry, essays, novels and dramas. By the same token, the history of literature takes these four genres as its main object for narration and moreover, has the main thread of "one generation after another has its strengths " running throughout its narration. Put another way, it gives prominence to The Song of Poetry, The Songs of Chu (i. e., Chu-Ci), Ballads (Yuefu) in Han and Wei Dynasties, Tang Poetry, Song Ci-poetry, Miscellaneous Dramas in Yuan Dynasty and novels in Ming and Qing Dynasties. The third paradigm makes its appearance after the 1990s. A host This constitutes the bulk of the second paradigm of scholars, knowingly or unknowingly, seek the commensurabilities between the West and China. Simply put, on the one hand, they rationally introduce some western concepts in a bid to energize the Chinese traditional scholarship; on the other hand, they give special consideration to the distinctive phenomena and categories in China literature and grant them due attention and sympathy. It is against such an academic backdrop which arises the chronicled history of literature. The following are the essays are written by Chen Pingyuan ,Chen Wenxin, Liu Yongqiang and Zhao Botao, renowned experts on the writing of and research on the history of Chinese literature, through which they vent their opinions on this topic in question.[著者文摘]
