Abstract:
Poetics is a distinct genre that involves poets articulating their aesthetic perspective. While literary theory emphasizes consistency and expository argument, poetics is often unruly and partial. But the virtue of poetics is just that it is provisional, contingent, and context depended. Poetics suggests an ethical ( and dialogic ) rather than moral ( and monologic ) philosophy. As such poetics provides a useful model both for teaching poetry and for literary scholarship. Excerpts from this essay were presented at the International Conference on the 20th Century American Poet- ry (Wuhan, China) in July 2007.[著者文摘]
