Thermodynamic model of superheating in Ag nanowires

Abstract:
In this paper, a classical thermodynamic model was given to describe the superheating of Ni-coated Ag nanowires. The nucleation and growth of meh phase are both suppressed by the low energy Ag/Ni interfaces in coated Ag wires. The suppression of meh growth is critical and plays a major role in the process of melting. The thermodynamic analysis gives a quantitative relation of superheating with the wire radius R and the contact angle 0. The superheating of coated wires increases with decreasing R of Ag wire. The result of the thermodynamic model was consistent with previous work of MD simulations.[著者文摘]
