甲骨文中的司字，实际应隶定作卟。在甲骨丈中的卟，通作旧、舅，司父即舅父。对司字的释读，揭示了舅的身份。舅在甲骨文中具有很重要的地位，舅及舅母，外祖母，外祖父均是祭祀的对象，是许多重要活动的参与者等。[著者文摘]

Abstract:
The character ＂si＂ on oracle bone inscription is supposed to be determined as ＂ji＂, sounding ＂jiu＂, which means ＂old＂ or ＂maternal uncle＂. Determination and explication of character ＂si＂ reveal maternal uncle＇s status. In the context of oracle bone inscriptions, maternal uncle bear very important position. Maternal uncle, along with maternal aunt, maternal grandmother, maternal grandfather involve in many important social activities. They are sacrificial offering objects, as well.[著者文摘]
