Trevor S.Bird received the B.S.,M.S.,andPh.D.degrees from The University of Melbourne,Melbourne,Australia,in 1971,1973,and 1977,respectively.He was a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow withQueen Mary College,University of London,London,UK.He was a Lecturer with Department ofElectrical Engineering,James Cook University,Townsville,Australia.From 1982 to 1983,he was a Consultant with Plessey Radar,London,UK.In 1983,he joined theCommonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization inSydney,Australia,where he held several positions,including theChief Scientist of the ICT Centre,Marsfield,Australia.He is currentlythe Principal of Antengenuity,Sydney,Australia,a specialistconsulting firm,a Distinguished Visiting Professor with University ofTechnology Sydney,Ultimo,Australia,and an Adjunct Professor withMacquarie University,North Ryde,Australia.Dr.Bird is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technologicaland Engineering Sciences,the Institution of Electrical Technology(IET),the Royal Society of New South Wales,and Queens College,University of Melbourne,and an Honorary Fellow of the Institution ofEngineers,Australia.He was a member of the New South Wales SectionCommittee from 1995 to 2005,the Administrative Committee ofthe IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society from 2003 to 2005,theCollege of Experts of the Australian Research Council from 2006 to2007,and the Technical Committee of numerous conferences,includingJINA,ICAP,AP2000,IRMMW-THz,and the URSI ElectromagneticTheory Symposium.He was a Distinguished Lecturer for theIEEE Antennas and Propagation Society from 1997 to 1999,the Chairof the New South Wales Joint AP/MTT Chapter from 1995 to 1998and in 2003,the Chairman of the 2000 Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference,a Vice-Chair and the Chair of the sections from 1999 to 2000and from 2001 to 2002,respectively,and the President of the Societyin 2013.He was a recipient of the John Madsen Medal of the Institutionof Engineers,Australia,on four occasions for the best articlespublished annually in the Journal of Electrical and Electronic Engineering,the CSIRO Medals for achievement in 1990,1998,and 2011,the IEEE Third Millennium Medal for outstanding contributions to theIEEE New South Wales Section in 2000.He has received awards fromthe Society of Satellite Professionals International(New York)in 2004,the Engineers Australia in 2001,and the Communications ResearchLaboratory,Japan,in 2000,the Centenary Medal for service to AustralianSociety in Telecommunications,the M.A.Sargent Medal in2012 by Engineers Australia for sustained contributions to electricalengineering,and the James R.James Lifetime Achievement Award ofIET in 2016 for outstanding contributions to the field of antennas andpropagation.He was a co-recipient of the H.A.Wheeler ApplicationsPrize Paper Award of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society in2001.He was named Professional Engineer of the Year by the SydneyDivision,Engineers Australia,in 2003.Since 2006,his biography hasbeen listed in Who’s Who in Australia.He served as an Associate Editorfor the IEEE Transactions on Antennas Propagation from 2001 to2004 and as the Editor-in-Chief for the IEEE Transactions on AntennasPropagation from 2004 to 2010.(Email:ts.bird@ieee.org)
