The mission of the journal is the analysis of facts, events, and processes of national and world history. Scientific researches published in the journal are based on the presentation and analysis of previously unknown archival documents – sources on national and world history. In addition, one of the purposes of the journal is to summarize the modern use in scientific research of historical sources stored in archives, manuscript departments of museums and libraries. It is important to note the inconsistency of ideas about the unstructured ocean of sources, where each user can "snatch" something important in his own hierarchy of values. The system approach to the corpus of interconnected sources as historical phenomena is investigated. In this case a document whose function lies in its ability to be a source of information appears for a historian at the same time as a reflection of problematic situations and value-scientific reference points.
