Proceedings of the African Futures Conference
The African Futures Conference is a joint conference of the American Anthropological Association and African Studies Association hosted with the generous help of local and regional collaborators in Africa. The biennial conference brings together scholars from around the world who are committed to the study of Africa. The papers and presentations in these proceedings showcase the remarkable creativity, innovation, and potential of Africa in all its complexity and diversity. The first conference, "Innovation, Transformation and Sustainable Futures in Africa," was held in Dakar, Senegal in June 2016, hosted by the West African Research Center and the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa, and presented an interdisciplinary occasion to focus research attention on important transformations as they relate to Africa's future.
