The Journal of Dietary Supplements (JDS) publishes original research studies relevant to dietary supplements, as defined per the U.S. Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) of 1994 [108 Stat. 4325]. DSHEA defines the term "dietary supplement" as a product (other than tobacco) intended to supplement the diet that bears or contains one or more of the following dietary ingredients: a vitamin, a mineral, an herb or other botanical, an amino acid, a dietary substance for use by humans to supplement the diet by increasing total dietary intake, or a concentrate, metabolite, constituent, extract, or combination of the aforementioned ingredients. A dietary supplement is intended for ingestion in the form of a tablet, capsule, soft-gel, powder, or liquid and NOT in the form of a conventional food (studies of individual foods or dietary patterns will be rejected).
