The increasing computational power of computers has significantly expanded the possibility of using artificial intelligence (AI) in various fields. There has been a transformation in the industry motivated by the natural ease of interface between humans and computers, and the promise of spectacular improvements in human capabilities. In the past two decades, a large number of AI systems have been developed in areas like speech recognition, image processing, computer vision, data mining, machine learning, software development, and robotics. In particular, there has been a significant surge in the application of AI in robotics.
